• Did Negro Leaguers Face the Best?

    Rating:

When one thinks of the old "Negro Leagues," names like Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson and Buck Leonard come to mind with some others. Certainly, serious quality talent came out of the leagues and it would have been great for many to have witnessed the action. However, questions have come up regarding just how good some of these players were and if Hall of Fame recognition is appropriate.Read more…
  • Better Youth Baseball Gloves

    Rating:

A good ball glove can have a big effect on youth’s enjoyment of playing baseball and even about whether baseball is a worthwhile sport for them to participate in. Kids could be playing many other sports, and in fact, participation in basketball and soccer is growing fast in the US. There’s no better summer sport or pastime than baseball though.Read more…
  • Making All City

    Rating:

Toward the end of my junior year at Weequahic High School in Newark New Jersey, I started hearing from my friends that I was going to make All City. How did they know I asked myself? In my usual mood of high esteem I was thinking that there was no way I would make the all city team.Read more…

    Rating:

I’m a Chicago White Sox fan, despite the fact that I’ve spent most of my years living on the Left Coast. To me, the Sox are a real team, in the same way Chicago is a real town.Anyway, in this day and age, the Central Division of the American League is where the action is, with Detroit and my Sox leading all of major league ball in winning percentages.Read more…
  • Carlos Delgado: Model Ballplayer and Citizen

    Rating:

In just his first season with the New York Mets, Carlos Delgado has immediately delivered for the Mets, providing solid offensive play for his team. Although he is in the middle of a 7 for 50 slump for the Mets, Carlos Delgado has still been providing the power numbers (15 HR’s) thus far. After hitting about .Read more…
  • Yankees Midseason Report Card

    Rating:

At the halfway point of the 2006 regular season, the New York Yankees stand at 46-35, four games behind the first-place Boston Red Sox. The Yankees are on pace for a 92-70 season, which probably won’t be enough for a Wild Card birth or a divisional title. Things have not panned out exactly as they may have liked, but with all things considered, the Yankees aren’t in the worst of shape.Read more…
  • The Kid's AlWright

    Rating:

No, I’m not talking about fan-favorite David Wright of the New York Mets; I’m talking about Jared Wright, that “other” Wright who was despised of by all Yankees fans last season, but is slowly gaining acceptance in the Bronx. In the rubber game of a three-game series, and in order to salvage a .500 road trip against the weak NL East, Jared Wright gave the Yankees five innings of shutout ball, striking out six guys in the process, which helped the Yankees coast to a 5-0 victory.Read more…
  • Any Fool Can Criticize, Condemn, And Complain

    Rating:

Here we are, less than two months into the 2006 baseball campaign, and Alex Rodriguez is already subjected to “Bronx Cheers” on any given night at the Stadium. After a slow, mildly unimpressive start to the season, A-Rod’s head is already being called for. Before we join up with the rest of the mob and crucify Alex, let’s take a look at some telling statistics of A-Rod’s time with the New York Yankees, and why I believe that the criticism of A-Rod is indeed unjust.Read more…
  • A Lasting Impression

    Rating:

Who is with me when I say that when Xavier Nady returns from the DL, that Lastings Milledge still better be the starting right-fielder for the Mets? I know that Milledge has probably been brought up a year or so too early, but I’m really excited as to what the future holds for Milledge and the Mets. The Cameron/Nady trade now looks even better as the Mets dumped a lot of salary, and now have a deep outfield anyway, an area of the Mets that we expected to worsen significantly after the departure of Mike Cameron.Read more…
  • Not as Useless as We All Thought

    Rating:

I think it’s time for all of us to admit that we were incorrect in labeling Randy Johnson as worthless to the Yankees’ starting rotation. While his start to the season was without a doubt absolutely awful, better yet, his first 2 months were awful, I think we’ll be seeing the old Randy Johnson for the rest of the season. If his past two starts are any indication of how well The Unit will be pitching for the Yankees down the stretch, then I think it’s hard to find a team that matches our front three of Johnson, Mussina, Wang.Read more…
  • Billy Blows Another One

    Rating:

Billy Wagner blew another game, his fourth of the season, for the Mets, in which Jose Reyes hit for the cycle, and the Mets overcame a 4-2 deficit to the visiting Cincinnati Reds. Wagner was able to get the first two batters of the Reds out in the ninth, including Ken Griffey Jr., but once again, he seemed to buckle under the pressure.Read more…
  • MLB Trade Deadline Rumors: Greg Maddux

    Rating:

  • Baseball Flexes Its Futility

    Rating:

The Quick FixJuly 5th, 2006It’s that time of year again when baseball fans and even your average sports junkie pull their hair out of their head over the insanity that is baseball’s all-star game process. Whether it be the “fan vote,” the fact that certain players refuse to show up because they are “injured,” or even the bright idea to let the winning league have home field in the World Series, baseball’s all-star game always seems to be the butt of many a joke. But all of the above pale in comparison to perhaps the dumbest rule in all of sports.Read more…

  • All-Star Game Is A Misfit For Ozzie & It Has Hurt The White Sox

    Rating:

The worst thing that could happen to the Chicago White Sox in June and early July wasn’t dumping games to the likes of Pittsburgh and to Baltimore, though that’s bad enough. It’s having their bizarre, colorful, and often vitriolic skipper, Ozzie Guillen, be selected as the American League’s Manager in the All-Star Game. The last thing the Sox need is more of a spotlight on the Wizard of Oz, or is it The Wizard of Odd?Read more…

Fantasy baseball, in all it's incarnations and iterations may seem a little unwieldy to the uninitiated, but it's really not that difficult to participate in, just requires a little time and persistence to get started. Many camps seem to have a myriad of rules, regulations and procedures to follow. However; it wouldn't have the following it does, if it wasn't easy enough for the average beer swilling baseball fan to engage in.

  • Basics of Baseball Betting - By: RJ Bell
While football and basketball are the most popular sports to bet on, baseball could be the easiest for beginners once you understand how to read the money line. Money line gambling is the primary wagering option for baseball bettors, which involves betting on the straight-up game outcome with no consideration for a point spread. Oddsmakers use the money line so that more money must be risked on the favorite or expected winner and less money on the underdog to balance the action on both sides.

The automotive world was introduced to economies of scale in 1954 as Nash and Hudson (yes, those were makes of cars exactly 52 years ago) merged to form American Motors. Both Nash and Hudson models are history now. Heck, American Motors has taken a hike since then too.
  • The Traditional American Game - By: Jonathon Hardcastle
Like life in traditional society, but unlike football and basketball, the other two major American team sports, baseball is not governed by the clock and amazes many foreigners that it is the "national sport" in a fast-paced United States. Being a very popular team sport, apart from North America also in Latin America, the Caribbean and East Asia, baseball is a bat-and-ball game in which a pitcher throws a fist-sized hard ball past the hitting area of a batter. The batter, who belongs to the other team, then attempts to hit the ball with a smooth, cylindrical bat made of wood or metal.
